Set during the American Revolution in the late 18th century, the game follows the story of a new protagonist named Connor Kenway, also known as Ratonhnhaké:ton, a half-British, half-Native American assassin. The game begins in the 18th century, where a Templar named Haytham Kenway travels to the American colonies to retrieve an artifact that holds great power. He establishes connections and forms alliances, ultimately leading to the birth of his son, Connor, with a Native American woman named Ziio. As Connor grows up, he witnesses his village being destroyed by colonial forces, leading him to join the Assassins in their fight against the Templars. Under the guidance of his mentor, Achilles Davenport, Connor trains to become an assassin and seeks revenge against those responsible for his people's suffering. Throughout the game, Connor becomes involved in significant events of the American Revolution, including the Boston Massacre, the Battle of Bunker Hill, and the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
