Castlevania was a cakewalk compared to this bloody curse. You thought you had the Prince of Darkness defanged - eh, Simon Belmont? Well think again, 'cause according to a damsel in distress, evil Count Dracula has left a horrifying curse in his wake. And the only hope you have of ending the terror is to destroy his missing body parts! Talk about your frightening quest, searching a maze of mansions, graveyards and dark, eerie forests - each guarded by man-eating werewolves, fire-throwing zombies and other devilish demons. Your grim chances are kept alive in Transylvania, where cowardly villagers offer clues to the whereabouts of Dracula's remains. And where you'll purchase magic weapons, including silver knives and flame whips. But beware the night. For when the sun disappears, Dracula's curse grows deadlier. And your chances grow dimmer and dimmer.

I am sure I am of the minority that thinks this installment is amazing but I am AND I did back in '87 when I first got it and beat it! Beyond Nostalgia for me to play this game

Remember that time I got stuck in a perpetual death loop and soft locked? Pepperidge Farm remembers... 🤦‍♂️

I played this game as a kid, and the combination of poor translation and tricky jumps made my smol child brain sad. But, I was pleasantly surprised by this game when I picked it up thirty years later. While Simon's Quest has (I hear) a reputation for being "hard", I actually thought the game was one of the easier titles I have played in the Castlevania series. While the decision to give the player limited lives seems a bit strange for what is more of an "adventure RPG" than an "action platformer", the presence of passwords AND continues makes this a moot point. Other than a couple of nasty spots, the game seems much less prone to the unfair spawns and "cheap shots" Castlevania I and III are known for, and the three (3) boss fights in the game were so trivial, I was actually shocked when I defeated Dracula. Visually, the game is what it is; a Konami NES game. a good variety of colors and backgrounds put the NES' graphical capabilities to good use, and only a couple spots had graphical lags due to too much happening at once (though one of those spots, in a castle, was torturously slow). Sound was okay, though I did eventually get tired of hearing the holy water shatter after about the 900th bottle I threw (lol). The music was good, but it wasn't as "epic" as the music from Castlevania III. Still, no major complaints there. With the help of a walkthrough to help you with a couple spots that you would have NO REASONABLE WAY to figure out on your own, the game shouldn't take too long to beat, and is definitely the easiest of the OG NES trilogy. Overall, if you're a fan of the classic Castlevania this may not be quite your speed, but for me I can see this being a cozy 3-4 hour game I can come back to again and again.

Underated gem in my opinion. The gameplay and music in this game is a hoot. unfortunately it suffers from tons of translation errors that make it impossible to navigate without a guide. Glitchy boss fights also make it underwhelming. Worth a play through though if you have a guide
