First off, I'm quite bias to this game and could likely write a few pages on it...for this review I'm just focusing on replaying again all these years later. Its a classic RPG at its heart, with a unique attempt at bringing in some strategy elements that would become very common in later RPGS of the next game era (character HP is actually Troop totals). Its based a bit on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and if you are into the Dynasty Warrior games you'll know the story pretty well. The game is pretty short if just played straight through, but there are generals to capture (in a system similar to pokemon), weapons to find and a few scattered side quests. The music is lovely for NES era tracks, cave music should get anyone moving. Only real nagatives for the gameplay is an over reliance on dice rolls for TP (tactical points) which is used like magic in other RPGS, this can make the end game a bit harder than it should be, also at times the game lacks direction or has little info on where to go next...that said talk to enough npcs and you'll figure it out. Visuals are dated for sure, and were not really anything special of the time, but they are charming sprites that kind of remind me of the old Pokémon games. Overall its a great RPG that tactical fans can enjoy. All these years later I thought maybe my mind would become hard to the game but no, its still as much fun now as it was then. If you enjoy classic RPGs, collecting things and having a neat story unfold before you, I highly recommend this old NES game.
