Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare is the fourth installment of the survival horror video game series Alone in the Dark. The player is given the option of choosing which of the two protagonists they play as. Carnby's side of the plot is based mainly on fighting the monsters by physical means while Aline's is more centered on puzzles. The two occasionally meet up and the main areas of plot intersect.

Ahhh, tengo muchos sentimientos encontrados con este juego. En primera, fue un juego que me unio mucho con mi padre. Fue el primer juego con el que toda la familia nos sentabamos alrededor de el ayudandolo a pasar el juego ya sea resolviendo los puzzles o leyendole la guia (impresa obviamente). A partir de ahi nos hicimos fans de los Survival Horror y siempre fue un evento que él jugara a un juego y nosotros estar ahí backsitteandolo... Un precursor del streaming el viejo. Pero en cuando al juego, es la primera vez que lo gano personalmente, ya que cuando era chico me daba un poco de cagazo. Y la verdad, en parte es un juegazo y en parte tiene algunas decisiones cuestionables. El juego destaca mas que nada por su ambientacion bastante opresiva, la isla y la mansion son lugares muy oscuros y llenos de recovecos, perfecto para que las criaturas de la oscuridad acechen, nuestra arma principal es la luz. Todas nuestras armas, en general contienen algun componente que genere luz. Balas de magnum de fósforo para nuestro revolver de doble cañon por ejemplo, escopetas de triple cañon de fosforo y un largo etc, son las unicas armas efectivas contra los bichos. NI te gastes en usar el revolver de Aline porque es una cagada y se come toda la municion en un solo chobi de los basicos. El juego tiene un sistema de guardado por medallones, del cual parece medio penalizante hasta que terminas el juego y te das cuenta de que te sobraron 75 medallones y te los metes por el culo. No es un juego dificil para nada, a veces puede ser criptico a la hora de combatir bosses o resolver algun puzzle ambiental. Pero nada del otro mundo. El soundtrack esta bastante bueno y hace que te sientas intranquilo asi como el sonido del ambiente y los enemigos. Graficamente no envejecio tan mal, ya que para ser un titulo que salio tanto en PS1 como PS2 y PC se mantiene bastante bien a dia de hoy y no es necesario parchearlo para jugar a una resolucion decente. ESO SI, la version de Steam del juego está DEMASIADO rota. Hay bugs que rompen el juego si no tenes cuidado, el personaje puede clipear a traves de los escenarios prerrenderizados y salirse completamente del mapa, dejando la camara fija en un punto donde nos vamos a perder, asi como algunos enemigos pueden colarse en cinematicas o quedarse bugueados en la arquitectura del nivel. Eso si, el juego es completamente finalizable y disfrutable si omitimos esos importantes detalles. Y nos ofrece dos campañas en paralelo bastante diferentes entre si como para sacarle una buena cantidad de horas al jueguito.

Con este juego siento que tuve una mala experiencia, pero principalmente porque no lo jugué todo de un tirón. El primer CD lo jugué completo, lo pause por unos meses, y luego seguí con el CD 2, el cual me pareció mucho menos interesante que el primero, también sentí que el juego podría haber terminado mucho antes. le doy esta nota principalmente porque disfrute mucho la primera parte. Felt at home here, very similar feeling to a Resident Evil cross Silent Hill game. The enemies were awesome and the puzzles were challenging at times. Overall had a great experience playing this game.
