Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is a open world third-person action role-playing video game developed by Monolith Productions and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, which takes place in the world of J.R.R. Tolkien's Legendarium. The game takes place in the 60-year gap between the events of Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings. It is a story of revenge, slaughter, and mystery set entirely in Mordor, the Land of Shadows. At its center is Talion, an ordinary man who loses everything, including his mortal life. The game is set in a fully open world, and features various role-playing game elements such as experience points and skills. There are various ways the player can complete their main objective. Aside from the main storyline, there are various side quests and random events the player can complete within Mordor. The melee system is inspired by that of the Batman Arkham series. Getting into a good fighting rhythm, using both regular attacks and counter-attacks will improve the player's combo multiplier. A unique feature of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is the Nemesis system. Every enemy in the game has their own name, rank, and memory. These enemies will continue to do their own jobs and tasks even when they're off screen. If the player does not kill an enemy in an encounter, this enemy will remember the player and change their tactics and conversations based on the encounter.

I would like to start off by saying the nemesis system is freakin awesome. Combat is fluid and responsive. I really enjoyed the story and the voice acting. The explorable areas were great and action packed. However where I feel this game crashes and burn is the boss fights. How are you going to build a game around this amazing combat system and not have it implemented with the boss fights. Let the player go all and don't limit them. Overall great game with a minor short coming.

One of the first games I played on my PS3 . Didn't know much about games back then. I rememebr reading an article about it in a game magazine my mom bought me to keep me busy while my sister and her were shopping. I remember reading how the game takes place on the Mordor borderlands and you get to explore the desolate planes of Mordor. Having read the books and watched the movies recently, I've gotten really immeresed to the world of Middle earth and spend many nights dreaming of exploring the secrets of openworld mordor and what the story could be. When I finally got the game, it was a complete opposite to everything i thought it would be. The story was brutal and very different to the source material I had to come to adore, game world was barren and lacked meaningful places to explore and the combat was brutal and very gory. But ouh boy was that gory combat so satisfying and fun to play. When you got further into the game and got to upgrade your character, you became a killing machine that could slaughter massive group of enemies with ease, by shooting arrows that teleport you to your victim and execute them in that place, exploding campfires and anybody near them and brutaly besting them in Batman Arkham like combat where every sword swing felt so satisfying. And the nemesis system was amazing. Dying did not feel meaningless anymore. If you died the orc that killed you got a stat boost and moved up in the ranks. You buit a connection and respect towards those orcs you fought aginst. Orc named Mog The Funny one killed me at least 3 times always just laughing his creepy laugh after I died. He really creeped me out and just kept getting stronger and stornger the more i died. I felt like there was no chance of me killing him but eventually i learned about his weaknesses, poisoned his water and moled him down with a caragor. Beating him in a fight that was not easy and wiping that creepy smile from his face felt so good. It was like a long storyline i created with the game had come to an end. And it was only one of the many memorable orc encounters in the game. The game holds a very special place in my hearth by being completly different thing to what I thought i was getting and me still falling in love with it because the gameplay was just so much fun❤️
