I never though I would hate a game more than ff13. The gameplay is horrendous. You have a game that put emphasis on 108 characters but lock your party 85% of the game. It's absolutely counter productive, while it create other problem related to equipment, having to go back and fort shop and party UI and your warehouse. Offer little space on everyone inventory, which make it long and tedious to do anything UI related (menu unequip, sell, buy, etc.) At the beginning of the game it's especially annoying since shop are in different town, making anything Inventory an even greater chore. No unequip function or buyout, i have to buy the equipment manually equip it, talk back to the shop to sell, to eventually complet you purchase AND REEQUIP IT. Imagine doing that for 40% of your gameplay time. Add that you can miss some important character which can ease a little this pain. (it didn't happen to me, but some first timer that doesn't do the game with a guide might be missing certain quality of life which make the game little more bearable) Its absolutely insane that people think this game is a classic. It's a textbook badly design game. The map are random and often placement in town made to make you take detour for absolutely nothing making the game feel out of place and make you think which town planner would think it's a good idea to do a town like that. Absolutely d*gsh*t game. The war... A glorified Rock Paper Scissors often based on luck, which is horrible. Make the wrong move, reset because you've lost a character permanently. While the story could have elevate the game, it doesn't. It on par with the quality of the game. Which mean donkey diarrhea kind of story. The story is badly written with awful dialogue. Like who cares really about Odessa? You see her like 20 minutes of gameplay. While giving you false choice mixed up with important choice... this game is so inconsistent, it make me want to punch things.

Suikoden 1 is my first entry to the series, and has been highly recommended to me by several different people. Classic PS1 RPG for sure, I'm sure it defined some of the many RPGs that came after it. I had my worries on how many characters there were (108) but it was surprisingly not overwhelming. You're really on focusing on a main few and you really use the others as flavor text or who you just want to be around with in your party. The combat system is clean, most like other RPGs of it's time. The Item Inventory/Equipment I felt was lacking. You have to switch around your items with each party members and those who you've had in the past. Fortunately, there is an NPC that will help you sort through it slightly faster, but it definitely was not as intuitive as it could be. Story was pretty good, looking forward to do the second game in the series which supposedly continues from this game. (All I'll say as to not give away spoilers) The Graphics are charming, and held up pretty well over the years. Music Tracks were pretty well rounded as well. I have No complaints there.

Honestly, this is my favorite game of all time so I may be biased. This game has a very satisfying story with high and low moments that really get you attached to the world and the characters. Being a playstation 1 game, really one of the first turn based rpg's released on the playstation (even before final fantasy 7) it has the old school 'feeling' The soundtrack is also fairly well done in my opinion, bringing those highs and lows I mentioned above to new peaks. I have seen people mention that they find this game to be too easy but to each their own. game will always be a 10/10 for me

Fun game. Had so much content for one disk. I liked how it had different battle systems that you had to master. Maybe one day I'll try to get all the characters.
