The Shattering is a first-person, story-driven, psychological thriller that takes place in the pristine white aesthetic of protagonist John Evans' own dream. Players must piece together the fragments of the past and present, following the voice of the 'Doctor' as he guides them deeper into John’s mind. Ich glaub ich sollte erst kurz was zur Story sagen: Du spielst einen Patienten nach einem Autounfall. Du hast dein Gedächtnis verloren, und ein Psychiater will dir helfen dich wieder zu erinnern. Mehr will ich dazu nicht sagen, aber das ist so grandios kreativ umgesetzt. Das Spiel ist in First Person, und der Psychiater ist einfach ein Aufnahmegerät, wenigsten kommt seine Stimme daher. Es wirkt teilweise schon etwas beklemmend, und manche Momente gehen schon hart Richtung Horror, wobei ich sagen muss, dass sie trotz der "Horror"-Art diese auch bei einem selbst reale Erlebnisse triggern können. Es ist halt eine Therapie, und die geht schon arg tief. Grafisch ist das Spiel fast nur in schwarz weiß gehalten, außer kleine farbige Ausnahmen. Den Grund gibt es am Ende des Spiels. Die Assets können einem bekannt vorkommen, und in einer Szene wurde diese deutlich nur gedoppelt, aber kann auch Absicht gewesen sein. Mehr will ich dazu nicht sagen, weil ich finde: Wenn jemand diese kleine Perle spielen will, dann soll er diese selbst entdecken, aber nimmt die Triggerwarnung am Anfang ernst, und den Hinweis: Das Spiel soll nicht als Therapie für einem herhalten außer halt für den Charakter, den man spielt. Ich war sehr angenehm überrascht, wie gut das Spiel war. Für mich einer der Überraschungen der letzten Zeit in Sachen Story-Games. Wie gesagt: Es hat nur Horror-Elemente.. ich würde das Spiel selbst nicht als Horrorgame bezeichnen, eher als Psycho-Game, denn es zielt eindeutig auf die Psyche.
