Pretty cool. I wish it leaned more into the survival aspects, especially by the end of the game they completely for go any notion that you will have to manage ammo, however I do like that prior to this you never run out of overall ammo but are forced to swap weapons around whenever a weapons ammo was low. Really helped keep me on my toes, and forced me to not min-max a specific weapon (until they gave me 500 plasma rifle ammo). The stutters are *bad* and I've heard they're even worse on PC so yikes. The big reveal at the end of the game was predictable, but still pretty cool, I think the game foreshadows it a bit too much. On a side note, I really like the way this game uses the dualsense, really cool stuff. Makes me glad I didn't play this on PC (well that and the stutters) as it does add to the atmosphere

Dead Space Remake is genuinely intense. It's not a particularly difficult game, and - despite how it was marketed - it's barely a survival horror, but it's one of the most stressful action horror games that I've played. It relies far too much on audio stingers, has extremely significant traversal stutter on all platforms - especially on PC - but I really thoroughly enjoyed it regardless. Despite being incredibly on edge throughout I still endeavoured to finish the side missions, and I was probably holding my breath at times. I really enjoy horror games, but they genuinely get to me at times. I had to intersperse my playthrough with far lighter games just to get through the whole thing. From the small amount I've played of the original game it's clear this is pretty much just the best way to play Dead Space. It's visually fantastic, the controls are more intuitive, and the tram system being adjusted to make the game just that bit less linear is a really significant change. I would go so far as to say Dead Space does a really good job of almost replacing the original game, if it weren't for the really aggressive traversal stutters. I mentioned them in passing prior, but they are genuinely really bad. The game freezes for what feels like seconds at times when moving between areas, and it's incredibly immersion breaking. The freezes are far lengthier on PC - as I experienced when I first tried playing this through PC Game Pass - but they're still really obvious on PS5, especially in Medical. It's really unfortunate that this seems to have sold below expectations, as this glaring issue with the game - pretty much the only thing it does worse than the original - will only be alleviated if better (future) hardware can essentially brute-force it away. There's a fair few moments where the framerate drops on PS5 but these are not really that bad at all in comparison to the stutter. The game generally runs well enough. Despite the technical issues that it has, Dead Space has the sauce. Isaac's suit acting as incredibly effective diegetic UI is fantastic, Kinesis feels really satisfying to use in combat, and having to shoot limbs rather than heads means that combat feels far more frantic. All of these elements come together to make combat sufficiently engaging, and Kinesis allows you to be somewhat creative in your approach to encounters. A certain part of the ending of the game is somewhat predictable, but it's foreshadowed smartly and sufficiently without being too on the nose. The story is overall really compelling, and I enjoyed it a lot. Making Isaac voiced was a bold choice, but I would say it paid off. He's a genuinely compelling character, and his reactions and conversations add a lot to the game. Dead Space Remake is just a really well-executed remake that builds on the incredibly strong base of the original game and modernises it just enough without distinctly changing the identity of the game. It's great, and would be a must-play if it weren't for the really egregious stuttering issues. They're unfortunately a fairly defining part of this remake for me, but the fact I enjoyed it regardless is a testament to its quality.
