I'm not really sure how they managed to capture the spirit of the original so well in this game. While the control scheme can be hard to get the hang of, and depth perception can be a little off at times, Neo The World Ends With You does an exceptional job of transitioning to 3D. Dialogue is more engaging due to the new way it's presented, the music is just as great as it's always been, and this one is actually playable in an uncompromised state on modern platforms. I just wish that, like the original, fully understanding the story didn't require playing past the ending. Neo The World Ends With You leaves certain aspects just as unexplained as it's prequel, even moreso if you haven't played the extra content exclusive to The World Ends With You: Final Remix. It's a personal gripe I suppose, but once I finish these games I have basically no desire to add another x amount of hours to my playthrough just to read some more dialogue boxes that cryptically elaborate on the story. I think it's clear that parts of the ending were changed during development though. One of the later fights randomly transitions to a stage background that makes no sense in the current context of the story and this is never explained. I can't help but feel like it's due to some kind of reshuffling. The naming convention of bosses established in the previous game does support the idea that things were reworked. I don't really remember the structure of the original, but Neo TWEWY can get really repetitive. I really feel like the team was limited by the day and week system established in the previous game, as some days in Neo felt like unapologetic filler. They were really a struggle to get through. I can't help but wish Neo stood by itself more, breaking some of the rules established by the previous game in order to create a better experience and a narrative that could be better enjoyed by newcomers. Regardless, Neo The World Ends With You is good. It does enough to stand out from its predecessor, and improves on a lot. I'm glad a sequel managed to see the light of day.

I couldn't finish the game, it's improvement over its predecessor in terms of gameplay. But this game keeps on interrupting you with incessant dialogues that most of the time it barely matters at all. So even if there's a sliver of important plot point, it's obscured by most inane pointless stuff. Some of the chapters are just filled with tedious work, and the payoff in term of story is just not worth it.

Eine fast perfekte Fortsetzung. Unglaublich, wie gut der Spirit von dem Vorgänger (TWEWY) eingefangen wurde. Dabei ist das Spiel bereits 2008 erschienen - NEO: TWEWY dagegen 2021. Ich finde die Präsenation von Shibuya wie immer richtig toll, aber noch schöner ist das kreative Gameplay. Ich kann beider Spiele nur wärmstens empfehlen! Am besten hintereinander spielen, die Geschichte ist nämlich echt mitreissend~
