In order to serve her mission to save Earth, Eve develops close relationships with the key members of Xion and contributes to rebuilding the city. On a mission to save Earth from the NA:tive, Eve is also faced with helping out the citizens of Xion. Whether you will help the survivors or not, depends purely on your decision as the player. It was set to release for PS4/Xbox One consoles and PC, but a September 2022 State of Play revealed the game would instead launch only on PS5 and PC.

Stellar Blade is Shift Up’s first attempt at making a AAA-quality game, and it is a solid debut for the studio. With some satisfying gameplay and a few mechanics that needed to be baked a little longer, Stellar Blade is a game that I would recommend to PlayStation and (eventually) PC players. Gameplay Pros - Combat gameplay is so satisfying; the sound of a successful parry is eargasmic. The game requires you to parry in time, the animations are fun to watch, and the bosses all have unique mechanics and animations that are fun to decipher when parrying enough to a heavy attack. - Set in a semi-open world, it gives enough content and locations to explore; as someone who has been fatigued on open-world games until recently, it was a nice change of pace to enjoy content on a smaller scale. Cons - Platforming is by far the most frustrating aspect of the gameplay; there were far too many moments where I overestimated the distance between where I needed to go, which led to my death. - The game was made with a 1v1 scenario in mind; however, when facing multiple enemies that attack simultaneously, you can parry one attack but eat another one; this has led to frustrating moments where I get stun-locked because I had numerous enemies in one encounter. Story and Characters - The story isn’t unique; it has one of the most generic storylines for a video game that I’ve played for quite some time. The biblical themes were there, which were interesting, and the ending was different from what I had expected. Nonetheless, it wasn’t anything special. However, are we playing the game for the story?? - The world-building is actually solid. Throughout my gameplay, I recognised that there was a genuine attempt at building the lore behind this game. The story behind how the world came to be was interesting; Shift Up could’ve simply made a generic world, but they didn’t, so I appreciate it more. - The characters were okay. Eve isn’t well-written, but her curiosity about the world before was adorable. Her companions are fairly thought-out and have their own motivation, but it is still pretty shallow. There were interesting side characters that we met through side quests, so Stellar Blade gets a few points for that. Visuals and Music The visuals are amazing; some of the Naytibas have a great design, and all are unique. The levels in the game have amazing backdrops that make me go “Wow, what a beautiful game. The visuals are a great aspect of the game along with the gameplay - The music was surprisingly good, I was shocked that there were some bangers in the soundtrack, a perfect mix of genres that encapsulates the scenario in the story. Shift Up did an excellent job at picking their composers for their games and the soundtrack deserves the nomination for ‘Best Music’ in The Game Awards. Overall - Shift Up’s first attempt at making a AAA game is a solid debut for the studio, its action-packed gameplay, amazing music and jaw-dropping visuals more than makes up for a fairly basic story-line. I can’t change your mind if you’re the type of person that is turned off from the fanservice aspects of the game (because there are moments of fanservice), however, if you are able to look over that, Stellar Blade is a game that I think everyone should try if they are a PlayStation owner or plan to play on PC. Overall, I give this game an 8/10
