I recently played Tekken 2 and found it to be quite enjoyable—around 4 stars. The game offers a lot of good qualities, though it has some imperfections. Here's an overview. The Highlights First, the fighting mechanics are very smooth. You select from a roster of characters, each with unique moves, and engage in battles. Whether you prefer quick punches or powerful kicks, there’s a character that suits your style. The controls are responsive, making successful combos feel satisfying—almost like playing a professional-level game. The graphics are impressive for a 90s release. The character models are detailed even if blocky, and the variety of stages keeps things visually interesting. The sound design also stands out, with catchy music that sticks with you and impactful sound effects that make hits feel satisfying. These elements contribute to an engaging experience. The Less Favorable Aspects However, not everything is perfect. Some characters are overpowered, which can lead to imbalance, especially if your opponent knows how to take advantage of that. The storyline mode is fairly basic, featuring simple fights and some minimal cutscenes, without much depth. Many players might choose to skip it after a first try. Why It Remains Enjoyable Despite its flaws, Tekken 2 is very enjoyable. Engaging with friends adds a lot of fun, whether you're competing or just joking around. It’s less about perfect gameplay and more about having a good time. The game’s less balanced aspects don’t detract much when shared with others. And going through arcade mode while trying different characters adds replayability. Final Thoughts I rate this game 4 stars. While it isn’t without issues like overpowered characters and a simple story, it remains highly entertaining and aesthetically pleasing for its era. If you’re interested in a fighting game that emphasizes casual fun and social play, Tekken 2 is a solid choice. Just keep in mind that it may not always play by strict rules. It’s definitely worth your time.
