The Gardens Between is a surreal puzzle adventure through memory, moments and time that follows best friends, Arina and Frendt, as they fall into a mysterious world of beautiful garden islands. The player can traverse back and forwards in time to discover each garden's secrets and, along the way, reveal a story about friendship, childhood and growing up.

The Gardens Between is an alright puzzle game will a really nice visual style, an interesting central mechanic, and an interesting control scheme to go alongside this. Unfortunately I think too many of the puzzles abruptly introduce mechanics that aren't really grounded in the game's existing logic, and it often feels as though you're just trial and erroring your way through a maze created by the developers. You can only move left or right in The Gardens Between, as you circle around a number of islands that each house their own puzzle. The objective is generally to get to the top of each island, and you have to move time forward or backwards - linked to walking forwards or backwards - to bypass obstacles in your path. Some objects in the game ignore this normal flow of time, and this creates your solutions. As mentioned before though, the objects that ignore this feel arbitrary at times. Many puzzles are solved by simply pausing your player characters' time in certain spots, as other elements of the level play out as normal. At first these moments are indicated quite clearly visually, but the visuals become far more muted as the game continues on. It may be a skill issue, but I found The Gardens Between to be a bit frustrating at times. I think a lot of this stems from just how slow the game is. Many puzzles involve doing something, and moving time forward or backwards to see how this action affects the future or past. You're often presented with a few action options, and often one of two or one of three of these ends up being "correct". If you keep making these "incorrect" decisions (often with no way to know they're incorrect ahead of time) you're then required to move slowly backwards or forwards to instead complete the "correct" action. This is just a bit of a drag. I respect the fact the game can be controlled only using the left joystick and one of the face buttons - and I actually somewhat injured one of my wrists at one point during my playthrough, rendering this the only game I could play at the time - but I just think that this makes the game far too limiting, and in fact unfun to control. The Gardens Between has some interesting ideas, and some good puzzles, but I found myself getting bored from time to time, and unfortunately wouldn't really recommend the game to anyone who doesn't have PS Plus or some other service that the game is free on. This game taught me to reminisce about specific memories of times spent with someone who was special to me but is now far away. Although we may not see each other anymore, the memories will stay with both me and the person who was special to me, forever.

Beautiful and emotional game about the fond memories of two teenager friends whose world gets shaken by the move of the other and the loss of that friendship. Puzzles were easy to grasp, but not too easy to be boring. End credits song was beautiful and made me tear up with the ending of the game. Wholeheartedly recommend this game!

Short and sweet, the art and atmosphere are masterfully done and the level design and mechanics remained fresh through each level! There's only 2 buttons and yet there was always a new spin on the mechanics! If you have 2-3hrs to spare definitely play this game!

Caramba, que game mito, mecânica muito massa de se aprender, vc meio que pode controlar o tempo, avançando ou retrocedendo para que objetos do cenários se movam e você possa avançar e ir completando os puzzles!! O game não é tão longo, bem tranquilo de se jogar, ótima reflexão sobre amizade, e sério, final surpreendente. Fooooda demais.
