This game has the weirdest pacing. The first half develops gameplay, and the second half develops story. The first dozen hours of the game has you going through dungeons and doing rescue tasks. A couple of them are assigned to you from the story, but most days you're told to go at it and explore wherever. The loop from the first half of the game comes from picking up quests, leveling, and getting access to harder and different quests. While the entertainment part of minute to minute exploring the dungeon had to be supplemented by talking with stream chat, every time I got to do a new quest type I was quite entertained. Plus, chaining together 6 quests in one run is a great feeling, while experimenting with moves loadouts with you and your partner. The second half focusing on the story is quite interesting. It actually goes the extra mile and develops characters which are half interesting and half cliche. While there were sparks of interest there, the parts I really enjoyed are when the characters just slowed down to appreciate life and the situation they were in, while looking at the beautiful sprite art sunset ocean. It nails that feeling of tranquility within turmoil that others fail at. Gameplay wise, you are either freestyle on opponents or playing a tactics game, there's no in-between. Your partners can instantly become a detriment to you due to the AI. You step on a explode panel and then have to map out the chess moves in your head you need to take to make sure no one else steps on it. There is so much space on the second screen for good UI, but so many good design decisions missed. If the UI indicated that they were out of an attacking mood, or that the style selected means they will not attack even when backed into a corner, or what path finding they will try to use when coming back to where you're at, that'd be great. Your partner is an idiot and you do have to manage them action by action if you want them to be competent.

A Brilliant way of changing the Time/Darkness games slightly but keeping everything to the originals. With the addition of some extra story bits in the post game and some main story changes, it's one i would recommend over the original two PMD2 games. 101/10

Explorer's Of Sky is very. Very good so don't let the rating fool. The story and characters are all endearing and fun to talk to. The game is pulled down by baffeling gameplay decisions that got me very frustrated towards the end. Despite this I would still recommend it!
