You can meet and recruit Pokémon in a dungeon-crawling adventure within their world! Build a rescue team to take on mysterious, changing dungeons and strategically plan your moves as you venture forth to make the Pokémon world a safer place…and uncover your true purpose along the way. As you recruit Pokémon, these trusty teammates will need somewhere to stay, so build camps to house, manage, and strengthen your Pokémon friends. Think hard about who is right for the job and how to approach each mysterious dungeon as you prepare a rescue team. You’ll move a single square at a time or use Auto mode to speed up movement until you engage other Pokémon in turn-based battles—but don’t forget about Pokémon strengths and weaknesses! This version adds gorgeous watercolor-inspired graphics, and more! Get comfortable in being a Pokémon, there’s a lot of work to do.

When I think of initial opinions of this game, I think "what if they took the aspects of Super that weren't awful and put them in Blue Rescue Team without the first game jank," and that's what this game is. Surprisingly, the main story isn't very long, especially with them reducing Uproar Forest to 4 floors instead of 10 like it used to have. Some thing didn't change, though. Magma Cavern is still a hellscape of Magnitude spam. While this game may be "BRT remade," there are different aspects to it. Max Ethers exist now alongside Tiny Reviver Seeds, and a lot of items in shops aren't nearly as expensive as they were before. I do like how you can increase the size of your toolbox now to let you bring along more items along with wands being brought back...except without the hyper reliance on them like in Super, since you don't start dungeons super weak. This may be me misremembering, but it feels like your general level curve in the main story is a bit...low. I finished at around Level 31 (Psyduck main) while my partner was Level 35 (Chikorita partner), but I feel like I should've been higher leveled. Yes, I am mad they killed the bases and replaced them with camps that are just menus. The addition of being able to use stat boosters and Rainbow Gummis at the camps was nice, though. IQ Skills are gone too, and replacing them are Rare Qualities, which I did like more than IQ Skills, especially since they affect the whole team. My partner got a skill that helped me not need to carry tons of Apples around since I hardly swapped characters outside of rare occasions. Speaking of features not in the original game, there's an auto feature...that I didn't use. Partners in general are a lot less prone to death since clients aren't Level 1 deadweight who die to a light breeze and recruitable mons are decently leveled and sometimes come with Rare Qualities that can help out. A shame they reduced your main party size from 4 to 3, but you can now have a bunch of other mons traveling with you if you recruit them in a dungeon, so you can literally roll up on a boss like Zapdos or Groudon with a whole squad. This may be a reason why they upped the HP values of the bosses. The story is pretty basic, and received basically zero changes. It's a serviceable story, if a bit simple, but it gets the job done. The Explorers games are the peak of the storytelling in this subseries, in my opinion. In the end, it was nice to revisit a game from my childhood remade. Why am I giving it a 3, though? Because of the unhealthy number of times I missed attacks in a row. I literally had a scenario where an enemy avoided 5 attacks in a row. That and the story being fairly basic along with the death of bases over camps.

I love PMD games. This was beautifully done and gave me a strong nostalgia of being a happy kid.

Nearly flawless recreation of one of my most beloved games. I hope they continue to remake the Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky games as well.

I am conflicted with this. In many ways this is superior to the original however so many great things were removed I cannot give it a higher score. A fun game, but if you have it available. Blue and Red rescue team being the originals are still better!
