Phenomenal game. Story is a bit whatever but it works and is an improvement over Vanilla SMT V imo

Caught this Jack Frost claiming to be a Nahobeeho, so I took him home with me.

That stare! Unfortunately we do not fear the Hydra. Note: Methkirito died 3 times before defeating the Hydra.

The original game was already a 5-star experience, and this new V edition takes it to higher highs. Go play both versions of the story!

Excellente surprise, mon premier de la série Shin megami.De mon point de vue moins bien que P5R (même studio) Les démons sont classe !! Je peux que le conseiller, effet Altus une fois dans le jeu difficile de s’arrêter !!

When this game came out, I will admit, I was one of those people who thought "what is this for?" Playing it now, I would easily say this is the right way to play SMT V. For context, before this game released, I did three other playthroughs to get the other endings for the bonuses on Switch, so naturally, I was tired of the Canon of Creation, so I played the Canon of Vengeance. While there were parts of the game that were samey (the early hours, pretty much all of Taito and the Temple of Eternity), the new stuff was a welcome change. Characters that either acted as a plot device or were more or less a side character like Tao and Yuzuru actually got to do stuff this time. They felt like actual characters this time, especially in Yuzuru's case, where you could've easily replaced him with a generic NPC in base V and nothing would've changed since he barely ever appears. Ichiro's descent into hyper law felt better than it did in base V as well, but I still think the execution needs work. On the topic of new stuff, exploring a new area of the netherworld was nice compared to just rehasing old ground again, and even then, the whole war against Arioch was still going on, so it's not like that whole conflict gets wiped off the face of the planet because the Nahobino's not there to carry everyone. Magatsu Rails were a very helpful addition that made getting around easier, and since you could check where the rails lead on your map, it helps get back to places you need to reach for sidequests or general exploring. One of the huge changes I really liked was the changes to the scaling. Before, if you were 5+ levels below an encounter, you were probably going to get shredded. Now, the scaling based on level is nowhere near as bad. This applies both ways, so you do need to use actual strategies now to win rather than just blindly pump up your numbers to be bigger than the other guy's. Another thing I do like is the number of options to keep demons viable even after their time is up. Between Essense Fusion, Grimoires, and Incenses, you can keep even weak demons viable when the bigger, badder enemies come along. Sure, you're still encouraged to fuse away your weak demons to get stronger ones, but with Innate Skills being added and certain unique skills being useful even into lategame (mainly things like Idun's Golden Apple that heals and buffs), it's useful to keep a couple of them around. One problem I had with the Canon of Creation was that parts of it's story felt...irrelevant. Lahmu's entire arc feels like it could be removed and little would change, and the Canon of Vengeance shortens it significantly to focus on the real threat of the moment, the Qadištu. I like how the bulk of the narrative was focused on dealing with them and the chaos they're creating. But I can't just go around saying positive things. The last leg of the game carries all the same problems base V has, and that's level scaling hell. Taito and the Temple of Eternity are borderline unchanged at all, which means Level 70+ Orochi is still a thing you can encounter and potentially struggle with. Unless you're using Gospels as you obtain them, you probably won't be close to Level 70 when you first enter Taito. I get that the Canon of Vengeance used Creation as a template, but couldn't they have added in some more stuff at the end instead of the last major area being a borderline copy paste of Creation's run through Taito. In the end, I liked playing Vengeance. Maybe one day, I'll go back and do the Chaos route or do some dumb challenge run like Frost demons only. The decreased level scaling and options to maintain weaker demons opens the door for some of these shenanigans.

Three years after its initial release, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance remains the perfect JRPG, which shines in the new edition with better performance and an expanded story. Sensible additions to the game elements also make it easier to get started without scaring off hardcore fans, for whom new conveniences remain optional. A clear recommendation for anyone who has always wanted to get into the franchise or is simply in the mood for one of the best modern JRPGs.

Ya esperaba con ansias la llegada de esta nueva versión de SMT 5, disfrute mucho su primera versión en Nintendo switch, ahora toca ver qué tal va en PS5.
